I had a fantastic New Year stay! The location is unbeatable, just a short walk from the train station, which made exploring super easy. The room was surprisingly spacious for a Japanese hotel, and it was spotless! I also loved the breakfast - they offered a great mix of Japanese and Western options, and the Japanese breakfast was delicious. Plus, the staff were super friendly and helpful throughout my stay.

On the flip side, the bed was a bit harder than I like. communicating with some staff in English had its moments due to language barriers. One other minor note, it's easy to confuse this hotel with a similar one on the other side of the station, so definitely double-check your directions!

The provided amenities included a kettle and a decent hairdryer, which added to the convenience. While the space was tight, I soon adapted, finding it cozy. The staff at Smile Hotel Utsunomiya were friendly and always eager to assist. The shower was refreshing, and I enjoyed the easy access to local shops and restaurants nearby.

Rooms are cramped. I couldn't even open my carry-on properly!!! Plus, the absence of hotel parking is a hassle, even if public options exist at a higher price. The AC in my room made annoying noises!!!
